Approximately 500 federal, state, and local government organizations in the US use Claude. A new agreement with the General Services Administration (GSA) applies a 40% discount to Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API. The pricing reduction covers direct purchases today and purchases through cloud providers in the coming months. State, local, tribal and territorial organizations in the US are included.
Agencies that adopt Claude can pay for the usage they consume without a minimum spend commitment. The agreement is estimated to save the government $1 billion. These organizations run important public systems, usually with tight budgets and long procurement cycles. The structure is meant to support that work so agencies can apply Claude to difficult problems without a large upfront commitment.
Claude use is also expanding across government. Approximately 500 federal, state, and local government organizations in the US use Claude. Claude for Government weekly active users increased about eightfold since February, and federal civilian agency usage grew about 20-fold in a year.
A dedicated program is being introduced so agencies can implement Claude and make broader use of it. Comparable programs are commonly used by commercial customers, and the related best-practice guidance will arrive in the coming weeks.
